The following lectures were arranged by the Department for its TY Students:
• On July 18, 2019, Mr. Saurabh Deshpande, Co-ordinator, BMM, Deviprasad Goenka Management College of Media Studies, spoke to Students on the topic “How to Write a Newspaper Report”.
TYBA English Students study newspaper report writing as a part of their Paper VI (Grammar and Art of Writing) syllabus. The lecture helped them gain an insight into the nuances of report writing. Mr. Deshpande gave them practical examples and asked them to draft a report based on the guidelines given. He also spoke about the ethics one needs to follow in the career as a newspaper reporter.
• On July 19, 2019, Dr. Jyoti Mundhe, Associate Professor, Department of English, Kirti College, was invited to speak to Students of all Language Departments on the topic “Careers in the Field of Translation Studies”.
Dr. Mundhe spoke about the origin and significance of translation at a global level, stressing upon the multi-lingual nature of the community to which we all belong. She then spoke about the qualities and qualifications of a good translator. Dr. Mundhe also differentiated between literary and non-literary translations and human and machine translations. She also discussed the career opportunities available in this field, and the conditions of work and the lucrative pay that makes this one of the most sought-after careers in recent times.After the presentation, Dr. Mundhe addressed the queries from the Students.
