On June 27, 2020, the Department of Englishorganized a RUSA-sponsored International Webinar on “Revisiting Children’s Literature”. President of Chikitsak Samuha, Shri. Kishore Rangnekar, presided over the event.
The keynote address was delivered by Educational FuturistDr. Coomi Vevaina, Internationally-acclaimed Educator and TEDx Speaker, was the Keynote Speaker. She delivered her talk titled – “Change the Story, Change the World”.
The second speaker was Dr. Mark Macleod, an Internationally-renowned, award-winning author and publisher of Children’s Literature and an educator teaching Children’s Literature, Australian Literature and Creative Writing at universities in Australia and around the world, most recently in India. His talk was titled – “What Lockdown has Taught Me About Children’s Literature”
The third speaker of the day was Mrs. Sangeeta Bhansali, an independent publisher of children’s books and founder of Kahani Tree, an exclusive bookstore for children, in Mumbai.
The three speakers not only answered queries from the participants but also discussed the various issues related to Children’s Literature such as, the reality of publication of children’s books in India and abroad, current genres and themes of children’s literature, the freedom of choice to be given to children to choose the books they want to read, and the role of parents and teachers.
The webinar attempted to bring together professionals, scholars, researchers, and students interested in the field of Children’s Literature, across the globe, on to a common platform. The organizers were successful in this attempt with over 700 registrations from across the country and from countries like United Kingdom, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Morocco and Sudan.
