RUSA-Sponsored Student Training Programme on
“Goods & Service Tax Act, 2017”
Between October 19 and 29, 2021, the Department of BAF organized a RUSA-sponsored Student Training Programme (STP) on “Goods & Service Tax Act, 2017” for its Students. The objective of the STP was to make students understand how GST, eliminates the double taxation, i.e., cascading effects of taxes on production and distribution cost of goods and services. The resource person for the STP was Mr. Mohammad Taufiq Shaikh, MCom, NET, Diploma-holder in Taxation Law, Assistant Professor, D.T.S.S. College.
Over 10 days and 10 lectures (2 hrs daily), 4 lectures focused on theory and 6 dealt with practical problems. Participants learnt in detail the registration process and criteria for registering for GST, as also the procedure for claiming input tax credit on purchases to avoid the cascading effect of tax. The concept of supply under GST Act 2017, Determination of Value, Place and Time of Supply, Composition scheme and all the rates applicable under GST, were also explained with the help of real life examples and illustrations. Mr. Shaikh also provided Students with notes for future reference.
A total of 62 Students attended the STP and both Students and Teachers found the programme beneficial. E-certificates of participation were awarded to all.
Accounting Club: The Tally House — Gamegear
On July 30, 2022, the Accounting Club of Department of BAF organised ‘The Tally House – Gamegear’ activity for the Students of all the Self-Financed Departments. The activities conducted were based on “Basic Accounting Terms” and focused on the Accounting knowledge of the Students.
In all 30 participants participated over three levels — Quizzer, Accounting Bingo and Mahjong. Six participants entered the final level and the following three Students were the Winners:

Accounting Club: The Tally House — Flames of Games
On July 23, 2022, the Accounting Club of Department of BAF organised ‘The Tally House – Flames of Games’ activity for the Students of all the Self-Financed Departments. The activities conducted were based on “Basic Accounting Terms” and focused on the Accounting knowledge of the Students.
In all 100 participants participated over three levels — Picture Perfect, Work Craze and Last Mind Nub. Of the 10 finalists, the following four were the Winners:

One day visit to Bombay Stock Exchange
The Department of BAF organised a one-day visit to the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) for its Students. A total of 178 Students were taken to the Exchange over three days, on July 20, 21 and 22, 2022.
The Students attended a lecture on ‘Indian Economy’, delivered by the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Economist at BSE-Brokers’ Forum, Mr. Aditya Shrinivas (MBA, Ph.D., CWM). Speaking of the Indian and World Economy, Mr. Shrinivas discussed the reasons for the volatility in the global economic situation. He also spoke about SENSEX 30, NIFTY 50, Mutual Funds and Systematic Investment Plans (SIPs), and encouraged Students to take an interest in the stock markets and invest in them via SIPs and Term Plans.
Seminar on Empowering Minds & Building Careers
On June 29, 2022, the Department of BAF organised a seminar on “Empowering Minds & Building Careers”, and which was attended by 297 Students of the Department. The resource persons were Mr. Vivek Sharda (Director, Ideal Management) and Mr. Jash Mehta (Product Head, Ideal Management). Students were told about the various career opportunities available in the field of Accounting and Finance, and how to choose the appropriate field after graduation. They were given information about entrance exams such as MBA, CAT, CET, GMAT, GRE, BANK-PO, and the top colleges for MBA. Students were also told about building profiles for interviews. The talk was followed by an interactive session, in which Students got their queries about courses and enrolment procedures resolved.
“Let’s Talk ‘Minds’- Break the Stigma”
On June 28, 2022, the Department of BAF organised a webinar titled “Let’s Talk ‘Minds’- Break the Stigma”, and which was attended by 69 Students. The speaker was Ms. Rashi Bhakta (a Consulting Psychologist) who explained how to achieve mental health. She explained how physiological disturbance and mental health stigma are different from each other, and how to differentiate between normal or abnormal situations and the symptoms of mental disorder. She explained the negative and unrealistic thinking of humans and how to start thinking positively. She also provided the details about her platform “Mansiksutra”, which is helpful to know about psychological and mental health.
Seminar on Financial Planning
On June 13 and 14, 2022, the Department of BAF organised a seminar on “Financial Planning”, and which was attended by 139 Students of the Department. The speaker was Mr. Kaushal Mishra, Faculty Member, DHP Financial Training Services & Bombay Stock Exchange Brokers’ Forum.
Over two days, Mr. Mishra spoke to Students about the Stock Market. On June 13, he told them about how the prerequisites for buying and selling shares in the securities market, savings and and investments, registration of trading, Demat Account, KYC & e-KYC. On June 14, Mr. Mishra spoke about Mutual Funds, Systematic Investment Plan (SIP), Systematic Withdrawal Plan (SWP), Systematic Transfer Plan (STP), types of insurance, financial products available at BSE and investor grievances.
The feedback from the participants was excellent.
EMPORIO SUMMIT
RUSA-sponsored International Webinar on “Pioneering Ventures: New Age Entrepreneurship”
On April 10, 2021, the Departments of BMS, BAF and BBI jointly organized a RUSA Sponsored International Webinar under the auspices of EMPORIO SUMMIT, on “Pioneering Ventures: New Age Entrepreneurship” to enhance the spirit of entrepreneurship among youth. The speakers were Mr. Umesh Nihalani, Senior General Manager, VFS GLOBAL, DUBAI, and Ms. Shunaza Khan, Lecturer, London School of Commerce, London, UK.
As ventures or business ideas are generally perceived as risky and uncertain, the speakers provided guidance about scalable start-ups, social entrepreneurship, and how to succeed as entrepreneurs. Mr. Nihalani spoke on “Budding Entrepreneurs” and how to initiate ideas on entrepreneurship, and Ms. Khan spoke on “Effective Communication Skills Required for Entrepreneurs”, and also provided examples of several young entrepreneurs to illustrate her ideas.
The Webinar was attended by 296 Students, Academicians, and Faculty members from various colleges across India and abroad.
Quiz on “Accounting Concepts and Conventions”
To make learning fun, the Departments of BAF and BBI jointly organised a quiz on accounting concepts and conventions for their FY Students on their Gnomio website. The quiz was in the form of a crossword and Students were tested on their knowledge of cost accounting, financial accounting and various accounting systems. A total of 221 students participated.
Webinar on “Union Budget 2021”
On March 4, 2021, the Departments of BAF and BBI jointly organised a webinar on “Union Budget 2021”, which was attended by 216 participants. The speaker was CA Abhijit Sanzgiri.
Mr. Sanzgiri began by pointing out that 2021-22 was the first paperless Indian Union Budget. In his analysis he stated that India would be unable to sustain the annual growth rate of 7%-8% if it continued to ignore its unskilled labour force, or increasing technological unemployment, or the poor levels of tertiary education. Identifying education as a critical issue, he remarked that while the government’s national education policy was well thought out, it had not set any appropriate timelines for its implementation. Yet, he opined that this pathbreaking budget resisting the call for fiscal deficit focus and debt/GDP centricity. Finally, Mr. Sanzgiri discussed the impact of the pandemic on business and the economy.
Mr. Sanzgiri’s talk was followed by a Q&A session.
RUSA-sponsored Intercollegiate Webinar on “Scrutiny of Financial Statements – Investment-Auditor & Investors’ Perspective”
On August 28, 2021, a RUSA-sponsored Intercollegiate webinar on “Scrutiny of Financial Statements” was organized jointly by the Departments of BAF and BBI, which was attended by 350 students.
The first session was conducted by CA Satish More, Assistant Accounts Manager, Tolani Shipping Co. Ltd., who explained financial statements, the investors’ perspective in the scrutiny of financial statements, and how to view company financials online. He also explained ratio analysis from different stakeholders and MCA features.
The second session was conducted by CA Shivani Singhi, Assistant Accounts Manager, Tolani Shipping Co. Ltd., who explained the auditors’ perspective in the scrutiny of financial statements. The session started with definition and types of audits and how they are undertaken, the concept of ‘vouching’ and the different types of supporting documents and their relevance, and the relevance of verification of different financial statements. Ms. Singhi concluded by explaining the internal control system and its importance in audits.
The Webinar ended with a Q&A session. The feedback from the participants was excellent.
Intercollegiate Webinar on “Deception in Banking and Insurance Sector”
On October 9, 2021, the Departments of BAF and BBI jointly organised an intercollegiate webinar on ‘Deception in Banking and Insurance Sector’, and which was attended by 210 students. The resource person was CA Abhishek Shetty, Credit Analyst, Team Head for Corporate Finance, RBL Bank Ltd.
Mr. Shetty talked about the various types of frauds that take place in banking and insurance sector, and how to overcome and reduce such crimes by adopting certain strategies. The talk ended with an interactive session.
Intercollegiate Webinar on “Investor Awareness Programme (NSE)”
On September 18, 2021, the Departments of BAF and BBI jointly organised an intercollegiate webinar on ‘Investment Awareness Program (NSE)’. The resource person was Mr. Amogh Gothoskar, Trainer, Resource Person for Investment Awareness programmes.
In his talk Mr. Gothoskar explained terms such as Primary & Secondary Market, Capital & Money Market, and explained in detail the working of SEBI. He spoke about the availability of online brokers such as Zerodha, Upstox, and 5Paise and how they function. He then went on to discuss the two factors that benefit investors: ‘ease of Investment and level of transparency’ through which investors can invest in multiple online platforms, and ‘Regulation’ which safeguards clients’ securities and prevents market manipulation.
The webinar was attended by 333 students and their feedback was excellent
Mind Tentacles
On August 14 & 15, 2021, the Department conducted an online Inter-collegiate quiz competition for degree college students. The Quiz aimed to provide students with an overview of how competitive exams were held, and to equip them with future career opportunities. The topics covered in the Quiz were current affairs, logical reasoning, verbal ability, quantitative aptitude and general knowledge.
The Quiz was kept open for 2 days and 97 students participated. E-Certificates were awarded to all.
Group Discussion Competition – “Speak to Lead”
On May 10, 2021, the Department organized a group discussion (GD) competition. The theme was ‘Banning of Misleading Advertisements’, and the tagline was “SPEAK TO LEAD”.
The aim of this competition was to sensitise Students to the presence of misleading advertisements and their impact on the consumer, and to provide Students with a platform to air their views. Students also learnt how to participate effectively in GDs.
The winner of the competition was Ms. Purva Shinde, and the runners up were Ms. Shruti Kamble and Ms. Sakshi Kore.
The other participants were awarded certificates of participation.
Learn Google
On September 16, 2020, a Webinar on “GOOGLE” was organised for BAF Students.
Faculty Members Ms. Ruchi Bhakta and Ms. Nidhi Borana discussed various tools and techniques of Google used for educational purposes. Tools such as Google Forms and its features, using add-ons in Google like form-limiter, Certify ‘em, form-timer and other were discussed, and participants’ queries were also resolved.
The Webinar was attended by 160 Students and 6 Teachers
Article-Writing Competition
An article-writing competition titled “Pen Down Your Mind” was organised to allow participants to express their ideas about topics such as “Role of a Housewife”, and “Hope Stories”. Participants had to fill up a Google form and upload their article in it. The winners were Ms. Savita Punjabi (Faculty Member, Bharat College of Arts and Commerce) and Ms. Karishma Punjabi (Student, R.K. Talreja College). Certificates of Participation were issued to all.

Participants had to fill up a Google form and upload their photo in it. The winners were Mr. Chayan Bhattacharjee (Faculty Member, Patkar-Varde College) and Mr. Karan Singh Jaiswal (Student, R.K. Talreja College). A runner-up prize was issued to Mr. Saurabh Panchamiya (Faculty Member, St. Rock’s College). Certificates of Participation were issued to all.
National Webinar on “Crisis Intervention”
The Department of BCom (Accounting and Finance) (BAF) organised a National Webinar on “Crisis Intervention” on July 11, 2020. The resource persons were Ms. Snighdha Mishra, Founder of Life Surfers and The Mind Life Project, and Dr. Rekha Wagani, Assistant Professor at Amity Institute of Behavioural and Allied Science, University of Mumbai. The Webinar was attended by 120 participants.
Ms. Mishra spoke of the impact of the Lockdown on mental health, and the social and personal role of individuals in dealing with the current situation effectively. In Dr. Wagani’s talk, she focused on the myths surrounding clinical depression and the measures to overcome it, recognising the signs and symptoms of suicidal thoughts, as well as measures to help such individuals.
The resource persons addressed participants’ queries at the end of the session.
Alumni interaction
On July 24, as an Alumni and Student Integral Programme, CMA Venkatesh Aacharya was invited to speak to Students. The session was attended by 210 Students. Mr. Acharya spoke on the various careers available in the area of accountancy and finance, such as taxation, cost accountancy, banks,insurance companies, loan and mortgage, share market and Government jobs. In addition, Mr. Venkatesh stressed the need to develop soft skills to be able to succeed in one’s chosen career, as well as the importance of constantly updating one’s skills.
Short-video Competition
Between July 12 and 15, 2020, an Intercollegiate Short-video Competition titled “Quarantine Diaries” was organised. Participants were required to submit videos of 90 seconds’ duration of life during the Lockdown, on themes such as cooking, online lectures and exercising. The First Prize was bagged by Shubham Baniya (Patkar-Varde College) and the Second Prize went to Kirti Prithiani (CHM College). All participants were also awarded certificates of participation.
The Department of BAF organised two inter-collegiate competitions to help Faculty Members and Students cope with the Covid-induced Lockdown:
