Through the initiative of Hon. Prime Minister Shri. Narendra Modi, the Indian system of well-being, YOGA, was showcased on a global platform. June 21, 2015, was declared as the first ever International Yoga Day.
Patkar-Varde College celebrated this day under the guidance of Yoga Instructor Mrs. Hemangi Marathe. The session was attended by Principal Dr. S. L. Matkar, Vice Principals, In-charges of NCC, NSS, Sports and Cultural Associations, and faculty members and students of the College. The assembled audience participated enthusiastically in the yoga activities.
In addition, 13 NSS volunteers of the College participated in the Kalina University Sports Camp. Also, 45 NCC cadets of the Boys’ Unit and 26 from the Girls’ Unit joined the Yoga Day celebrations at KES’ Shroff College of Arts and Commerce, while seven cadets from the Girls’ Unit joined the Yoga Day activities at the Garrison Parade Ground, Colaba.
The members of Chikitsak Samuha, the managing body of the College, rendered whole-hearted support for the programme. A poem, penned for the occasion, expressed the importance of yoga in the life of students and teachers
