The College has, for the first time, constituted an HRD Committee to enhance the skills- and knowledge-base of its teaching staff.
On April 18, 2015, the Committee organised a guest lecture as part of its Inaugural Function. At this event, Principal Dr. Matkar briefed the audience about the objectives of the HRD committee. Dr. G. V. Pandit, Secretary, Chikitsak Samuha, the governing body of the College, chaired the Inaugural Session, and spoke about the vision behind constituting the HRD committee.
The guest speaker was Mr. Vinay Prabhu, Head, Department of Psychology, Nagindas Khandwala College. He spoke on the topic ‘Fatal Attraction’, which is his term for Escalation of Commitment, the tendency of investing increasing time, money, emotions and efforts in a failed proposition. Using personal and other examples Mr. Prabhu illustrated the fallacy of how one may recognise bad decisions but may fail to reverse them for various reasons such as social pressure, stigma attached to quitters, inability to accept failure, and ego. Most important, Mr. Prabhu stressed that there should be no shame attached to quitting.
The entire teaching staff of the College attended the lecture. They enjoyed it because each one could relate to their own wrong decisions and the difficulty they faced in accepting failure and quitting. After the session was over, some members of the staff privately shared their experiences with Mr. Prabhu.
