As part of the Golden Jubilee Celebrations of the College, a two-day UGC-sponsored National Conference on ‘Foreign Direct Investment in India: Opportunities and Challenges’, was organised on January 31 and February 1, 2014, jointly by the Departments of Economics, Commerce and Accountancy.
The Inauguration ceremony was graced by the presence of Chief Guest and Keynote speaker Dr. Sudhakar Reddy (Professor of Economics, Osmania University, Hyderabad), Mr. Kishore Rangnekar (President, Chikitsak Samuha), Dr. M. B. Kekare (Principal), Dr. M. S. Nadkarni (Vice-Principal), and Mr. B. B. Suryawanshi (Convenor). The Proceedings of the Conference were also published during the Inauguration ceremony.
In his Keynote Address, Dr. Sudhakar Reddy discussed the various aspects of foreign direct investment (FDI) as also the threats and challenges of allowing FDI indiscriminately into all sectors of the economy. He also spoke about how FDI was affecting Indian industries and employment opportunities.
In the two-day conference, eight technical sessions were held. Each session began with a presentation by the resource person, who also chaired the session, and this was followed by paper-presentations on the sub-theme and interactive sessions.
Research papers had been invited from academicians, researchers, people from corporate sector, and post-graduate students. More than 70 papers were received, which were reviewed by a Review Committee comprising eminent academicians, which selected papers for presentation during the Conference, and also for publication in the Conference Proceedings. The Proceedings, which were published as a document bearing an ISBN number, carried 45 articles.
The Conference was well-appreciated by the participants and I take this opportunity to thank all members of organizing committee and sub-committee, as also all teaching and non-teaching staff members of the College, without whose hard work and co-operation the Conference would have not been successful.
