National-level E-Quiz on “Earth Day”
On the occasion of “Earth Day”, the Science Association and Department of Botany jointly organised a national-level e-quiz. The quiz was kept open from April 22 through 25, 2022.
The e-quiz tested participants on topics such as countries working to address climate change, origin of Earth Day, conventions to build sustainability awareness, and measures to lower the global warming and mitigate the Climate Change Crisis.
There were 196 participants from cities across Maharashtra and other states such as Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Telangana. Participants who scored above 50% (156 students) in the e-quiz were awarded e-certificates.
• Carbon footprints

• Ion Exchange chromatography
On February 1, 2020, a workshop on ‘Ion Exchange Chromatography’ was organised jointly with the Department of Chemistry. The resource persons were from Hi-media. Participants were given a hands-on experience of ion exchange chromatography technique. The workshop was attended by 44 Students from the two Departments.

Dr. S. P. Shukla, Principal Scientist, Aquatic Environment & Health Management Division, ICAR-CIFE, spoke on ‘Biotechnology of Spirulina and its Applications’.
• Sustainable Farming Techniques— Hydroponic and Microgreens
On January 22, 2020, under the DBT Star College Scheme, a workshop on ‘On Sustainable Farming Techniques— Hydroponic and Microgreens’ was conducted byMr.Husain Bharmalof ZahPlantera,anEco Consultant. The workshop was attended by 57 Students and each participant was given a microgreen growing kit and explained how to use it.
Excursion to Alibaug:
Four Staff Members of the Department accompanied 96 Students to the Biodiversity Park at Alibaug, on January 18, 2020. The group studied the biodiversity of the place and recorded the medicinal plants.
The Department of Botany conducted a number of activities for its Students in the second half of 2019-20.

• MUSHROOM CULTIVATION
On January 13, 2020, under the DBT Star College Scheme, a workshop on ‘Mushroom Cultivation’ was conducted byDr. Ajita Kumar, Faculty Member, Department of Botany, Wilson College. The workshop was attended by 42 Students and several Staff Members. Participants were given hands-on training during the workshop.
