DEPARTMENT OF AVIATION
B.Sc. Aviation is a three-year integrated course in science leading to a B.Sc. (Aviation) awarded by University of Mumbai along with the Commercial Pilot License. This course has been introduced in the academic year 2003-04 by University of Mumbai with the intake of total 120 seats. A formal degree is not only beneficial in equipping a person in terms of aviation skills but also broadens one’s perspective in the field of specialization and management. Introduction of this degree course will provide the appropriate scientific background in terms of quality and content essential to an aviator for his / her all round development. Furthermore, a basic degree will open the portals for post-graduation leading to greater enhancement of scientific skills, not to speak of the potential that this will create for research and generation of knowledge. This in turn would lead to greater professional excellence. Aviation is a branch of science that focuses on the study and design of aircraft. It also deals with aircraft maintenance, airline management, and air traffic control. Aviation science includes all the arrangements which are required to keep the airlines running safely and efficiently. As of now, pilots and flight supporting service personnel have been exposed to a much more rigorous hands-on knowledge and experience than persons pursuing a normal professional educational programme. Through this course, the students will be able to understand, learn and use science of aviation and operation of aircrafts for a successful career in aircraft industry etc. To obtain the Aviation degree, it is mandatory for students to have a Commercial Pilot License (CPL). To obtain a CPL, students will be required to complete a minimum of 200 hours of flying. In the last semester, instead of flying hours students will be required to opt for a Project.
