Institutional Social Responsibility (ISR):

The College is firmly rooted in the Community of which it is a part, and believes in working for the society in a variety to ways. This is the ISR of the Institution, which we take very seriously.

The following are some of the ISR activities undertaken by the College:

School College Complex Activity & Jidnyasa

The college organises School -College- Complex Activity for school students appearing for Homi Bhabha Young Scientist Award for practical examination. A one-day activity on Wednesday, 3rd January 2024 from 8:30 am to 1:30 am, was held. Marathi and English medium selected students of standard 6th and 9th visited our college for explanation of laboratory experiments, slides, specimens, charts and models.

All the science department faculties, UG and PG students participated during the activity and performed experiments and gave demonstration for the practicals in the related subjects during the visit to the laboratories.

48 students in all from 11 different schools located between Kandivali to Dadar participated in this event from 8:30 am to 1:30 am. Their respective teachers were accompanied with them. The students as well as the teachers were got the opportunity to see the live demonstrations of some experiments.

Jidnyasa Hardware Lab & Programming Lab

The event "Jidnyasa" was organized by Chikitsak Samuha’s S.S. & L.S. Patkar College of Arts & Science and V.P.Varde College of Commerce & Economics for Marathi medium school students. It aimed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical applications, particularly in the fields of hardware and programming.

The Practice:

1. Jidnyasa Hardware Lab:

- Presentation of projects such as the Power Saving Escalator and Smart Shoe.

- Explanation of the Power Saving Escalator's design, which utilizes ultrasonic sensors for energy conservation and provides real-time data feedback.

- Demonstration of the Smart Shoe, an IoT-based project highlighting its potential in health monitoring and daily life convenience.

2. Jidnyasa Software Lab:

- Showcase of projects including the Rock-Paper-Scissor with AI game, Dexter system, and Flappy Bird game.

- Description of the Rock-Paper-Scissor with AI game, where players compete against an AI opponent using hand gestures and database integration.

- Introduction of the Dexter system, integrating OpenAI's chatgpt with a desktop assistant for various tasks and interactions.

- Demonstration of the Flappy Bird game, a real-world version using Python and hand tracking with MediaPipe, emphasizing user engagement and interaction.

Blood Donation

Every year the NSS unit of our College conducts Blood Donation Drive in association with reputable Blood Banks. The donors are issued Donors' cards. Students, on a personal level, are always ready to donate blood whenever the need arises. The blood donation drive is also accompanied by thalassemia check-up of all those who register for the same. Over 150 units of blood are collected every year.

Skillful Netizen

In today's digital age, basic computer literacy is essential for everyday tasks such as communication, information access, and financial transactions. However, many senior citizens and housewives may lack the necessary skills to effectively use computers and the internet. The Skillful Netizen program aims to address this gap by offering tailored training sessions specifically designed for these demographics.

The Practice:

The Skillful Netizen program was conducted from 18th December 2023 to 23rd December 2023 at Computer Lab 7, Patkar Varde College. The program engaged a total of seven participants, consisting of senior citizens and housewives. Eight faculty members from the Information Technology and Computer Science departments facilitated the sessions.

Each day of the program focused on different topics, covering a range of essential digital skills:

- Introduction to computer basics, internet usage, and productivity tools (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel, Gmail, Google Drive).

- Hands-on practice with specific applications and platforms such as Excel, UTS app, online ticket booking, social media (e.g., Facebook, Instagram), and navigation tools like Google Maps.

- Guidance on online banking, password security, digital payments, and e-commerce (e.g., BHIM, PayTM, Google Pay, online shopping).

- A farewell ceremony was organized on the final day to felicitate participants with certificates and provide an opportunity for feedback and reflection.

E-waste Bin

An E-waste collection bin, set up by the College in association with EcoReco Recycling Company(in 2015-16) near the College entrance, ensures the proper disposal and recycling of electronic items.

D.I.P.A.M: Design Implementation Performance Accuracy Maintenance

The D.I.P.A.M project competition was initiated by the Department of Information Technology and Computer Science to engage students in practical learning and application of theoretical concepts. It aimed to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world implementation by encouraging students to develop innovative solutions to contemporary challenges.

The Practice:

1. Elimination Round:

- Conducted to shortlist projects for the final round.

- 16 projects presented by students were evaluated by a panel of judges consisting of faculty members.

- Criteria such as creativity, feasibility, and technical proficiency were considered in the selection process.

- 6 projects were selected to advance to the final round based on their merit.

2. Final Round:

- Held to showcase the selected projects to an esteemed judge from the industry.

- Each participating team demonstrated their project to the judge, followed by a question-and-answer session.

- Live demonstrations were utilized to clarify any queries raised by the judge.

- The judge evaluated projects based on innovation, implementation, performance, accuracy, and maintenance aspects.

- Winners of the competition were announced based on the judge's assessment and scoring.

PATKARE

PATKARE is a drive for social development conducted by the College Self-Financed courses, initiated in 2013-14. The mission of PATKARE is to provide support in cash and kind to NGOs working diligently to improve the lives of the underprivileged. The fund is generated through voluntary contributions from students and staff of Self-Financed courses. In 2016-17, food worth approximately Rs. 63,000/- was provided to underprivileged visually-impaired people, in association with Unite Blind Uplift Trust, Kandivali (W), a unit of Being Sevak Charitable Trust, as part of their Annapurna Programme. Each person was given 5 kg each of wheat flour and rice, 2 kg sugar, 1 lt oil, and 1 packet of mixed spices.

Daan Utsav

A beautification drive of railway stations, under the banner 'Hamara Station Hamari Shaan' was organised by the College SF Departments, in association with Revolunteer and M.A.D. Foundation, on October 7, 2016.

Research in IT - Decoding Robotic Technologies

The webinar aimed to address the growing importance of robotics and intelligent automation in modern industries and businesses. It sought to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical applications by providing participants with insights from industry experts and academics.

The Practice:

Organization of a one-day RUSA sponsored international webinar focused on "Research in IT - Decoding Robotic Technologies."

Selection of speakers from both academia and industry: Dr. Bhavin Shah, Head of Department of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering, Atharva College of Engineering, Mumbai, discussed the role of robotics and automation in boosting the industry/manufacturing sector. Ms. Tolani Jaiye-Tikolo, RPA Technical Lead at Allied Irish Bank, Ireland, elaborated on the concept of intelligent automation and its application in business processes.

Presentation of topics through online platforms, specifically Streamyard YouTube Live, to accommodate the remote participation of attendees.

Welcoming speech and introduction of speakers by faculty members, providing context and setting the tone for the webinar.

Delivery of informative sessions by the speakers, including explanations, examples, and videos to illustrate key concepts.

Interactive engagement with participants, allowing for questions, discussions, and exchange of ideas.

Conclusion with a vote of thanks and valedictory note to express gratitude to all dignitaries, speakers, and participants for their contributions and active participation.
