Department of History

General Information

The Department of History is one of the oldest and leading departments in the Arts Stream at Undergraduate level. It was established in 1964. Our college is the only institution to have a History department with Ph.D. Center in Western Mumbai Suburban region beyond Andheri. The Department offers 7 courses at UG level in each semester out of which 5 courses cover a wider span of Indian history from Ancient to Contemporary Era. Remaining 2 courses introduce students with allied subjects of History.

  • Appointed as Subject Expert, Central Board of Film Certification of India, Mumbai for the movie Ponniyin Selvan released in September 2022.

  • Mr. Nachiket Paradkar completed National Education Policy - Professional Development Programme organized by IGNOU and NPTEL-SWAYAM in July-August 2023.
  • Presented a research paper titled “Cultural Resilience and Economic Growth: Convergence of TKDL and GI in India’s Indigenous Landscape” in ICSSR-Sponsored Interdisciplinary National Seminar on Indigenous Knowledge System: A Leading Way to Sustainability organized by J.S. Hindu (P.G.) College, Amaroha, U.P. on November 04-05, 2023.Presented a research paper titled “Cultural Resilience and Economic Growth: Convergence of TKDL and GI in India’s Indigenous Landscape” in ICSSR-Sponsored Interdisciplinary National Seminar on Indigenous Knowledge System: A Leading Way to Sustainability organized by J.S. Students achievements:

  • 30 students from FYBA, SYBA and TYBA participated and completed a Certificate Course on Introduction to Modi Script organised by History Department.
  • Research article titled 'Analysing The Relief Panel of British Soldiers on Trishunda Ganapati Temple, Pune, India' authored by Ms. Neha Mhatre, Ph.D. student was published in 'Reverberations,' a Multidisciplinary peer-reviewed journal of Shailendra College of Arts, Science and Commerce, Dahisar East, Mumbai.
  • 04 Ph.D. students presented research papers in the Research Scholars Meet organised by Patkar-Varde College (Autonomous), Mumbai in April 2023.
