Department of Sociology

General Information

The Department of Sociology is established in 1974. The Sociology subject is offered in combination with Economics, English, Marathi, Hindi, Political Science and History at UG Level. The subject Sociology helps learners not only to understand broader social issues but also to analyse day to day activities based on sociological imagination. There are various career opportunities available like appearing for civil services exams, competitive exams, media and journalism, law, teaching, NGO’s, social work. etc.

To ensure the all-round development of the students, Sociology Association was formed in the year 1999. The Department has organized two students’ training programs and one certificate course till date.

Under autonomy, the board of studies (BoS) of Dept. of Sociology was formed in 2019. BoS members consists of eminent personalities from various walks of life like department faculty members, academicians from colleges affiliated to parent university and other than parent university, industrialist and reputed alumni of the department, and under their able guidance syllabi was designed to touch various aspects like career avenues, soft skills etc. BoS of the department has revised in 2023 and first year syllabus is designed and implemented from the A.Y. 2023-24 under NEP 2020. Courses like skill enhancement, vocational skill course are introduced to enhance employability and to develop relevant skills.
